2009 Civic LX (Automatic) neutral safety switch?
2009 Civic LX (Automatic) neutral safety switch?
Need some help with the diagnosing the following issue.
My 2009 Civic LX has 90K miles. Recently replaced battery with Honda 100-month. Also, did the oil/filter, power steering fluid and brake fluid flush services. Car has been running good. Yesterday, the car did not start in park after driving fine 15 minutes earlier on highway. It was cranking, but did not start. I waited 30 minutes and tried again in park and it didn't start. I then shifted the gear to Neutral and the car started right away. I drove home (45 minutes) with no problem. There were no abnormal lights and no check engine light on. At home I tried to start the car in park and it didn't start. I shifted to neutral and it didn't start. I shifted back to park and the car started. This morning I went to check the car and it started every time in park and in neutral. I checked the battery connectors and they look fine. Also, checked the oil level and it is good.
Initially, I was thinking that the neutral safety switch may be failing, but today I am not sure anymore since the car started every time today (4 times). Has anyone else had a similar experience? Thoughts?

Possibly the transmission range switch, but that's pretty low mileage for that to fail

Thanks Colin42. Would the transmission range switch issue be intermittent. For example now it seems to be working fine, but it could fail again soon?
Someone also mentioned the anti-theft device as a possible cause.

It could be intermittent, when you said you could start it in neutral when it wouldn't in park, that made me think of that part. Intermittent electrical problems can be a real pain to diagnose.
If it's the anti theft, you should have a key symbol blinking rapidly on your dash when trying to start
