Check fuel cap message

Purposely left fuel cap detached and started engine and let idle at least 5 minutes but the "CHECK FUEL CAP" message never illuminated. Restarted engine but message never came on. Normal?

It can be, the evap tests are only run in certain conditions

I was trying to eliminate the gas cap as the reason for "CHECK FUEL CAP" warning that came on a day before. Reset cap gasket and message cleared after 3 driving cycles. COuld it have been some other EVAP issue is what I was trying to find out
