Car vibrates at red lights
Car vibrates at red lights
Just bought my first car, a 2008 civic with ~90k miles on it.
After a bit of driving I noticed that the car vibrates at stop lights when idling (around 650/700rpm). No engine light, still drives smooth, good fuel economy-- the second I pull away and the rpm goes up it stops. The engine needs to be warm, this only happens after a few minutes on the road. It seems like others in the passenger seat/back seats can't feel it, only the driver (through the steering wheel/seat).
I've found that revving my engine at the light/turning the steering wheel is enough to temporarily stop the shaking, but it comes back after 10 seconds. I've literally gotten into the habit of repeatedly turning the steering wheel at lights.
I already replaced the spark plugs (figured I do it anyways since it hadn't been done yet). From my own untrained eye it seems like the motor mounts are in good condition. I've heard people say all 4-cylinders are like this, but I've driven plenty of other 4-cylinder cars with way more milage and never had this problem.
What should I do? Would an idle learn procedure help? Thanks

Re: Car vibrates at red lights
No 4 cylinder cars are not like that. Sounds like you might have a worn engine Mount tho.
I think the center one is a common problem on 8th gens if I remember correctly.

Re: Car vibrates at red lights
The gel filled one (passenger side) and dogbone are the usual culprits on the 8thgen. Just swapped those on my friend's 2008. Hers vibrated like mad in reverse. I also didn't know she was only getting low 20's for fuel economy because of it. Motor mounts fixed that, too. Her first tank after the replacement was in the low 30s
