Just a bit of background: I recently bought a used 2012 Civic LX Coupe with 86k miles. I took it for a pre-purchase inspection and found it had horrible tires that I’ve since replaced, a bad engine temperature sensor that I’ve also since replaced, as well as a torn inner CV boot on the left side that will be fixed very soon.

As far as my current issue, I’ve noticed that when I first turn my car on and the engine is still cold, as soon as I pull out of my driveway and make it to the light 0.1mi down the road (and while the cold engine light is still on), the car’s rpms are slightly higher, but it vibrates a bit harder than normal. Enough to where I can see and feel it in the steering wheel and I can see it in my rear view mirror. As soon as the light turns green and I accelerate, the vibration goes away. When I have to stop again another 0.2mi down the road, after the cold engine light goes off, my engine idles at normal rpms and there’s no vibration.

Other than the vibration and the slightly elevated rpms (which I’m told elevated rpms is normal when the engine is still cold and it’s ~40*F outside), my engine sounds and runs great. I suspected for a minute that it might be the engine mounts, but I don’t think the vibration would be limited to only when I’m stopped and the engine is still cold, but I don’t know.

I would ask my mechanic, but he won’t be available until Monday, so I figured I would try here first because the people here have helped me a ton already and I’ve only been a lurker until this post!

I wasn't to say it's normal because it only happens when the engine has the cold light on. But I'm not familiar with the newer cars

Sounds pretty normal to me. I wouldn't worry about it. It doesn't sound like it's causing any problems.

Engine management have different modes for cold running.
That is done for several different reasons, one is to heat the engine faster (higher RPM).

All cars will also have higher noises until the parts expand with heat. Engines are designed to work best at the working temperature.

It's normal, unless your teeth fillings start falling off.
