d17a2 head swap question(s)
alright guys, got a "hypothetical" situation for you.
so lets say i get an a2 head for my d17a1 dx, and an ex harness, and an ex ecu. lets say i also get the original key from the ex in the junkyard that i got the ecu and wiring harness from. Could i just get a regular key place (like ace hardware) to make me a key cut like my original but flashed like the ex key? i assume that would work but I am looking for confirmation. I found a deal on an a2 head ported and polished with new valve guide seals, etc. and i know of a junkyard with an ex em2 locally that i could get a harness and ecu from. I dont want to have to try to find a vafc-II and have to hassle with tuning it, and the vafc-II's are becoming really rare. Thanks for the help in advance!

a regular key place will not be able to do it. Just pay the money for Honda to flash the key. You can still pull up places that sell vafc-II using good ol' google. The tuning would not be that hard honestly, people have already done it and you can just use their settings.

and the reason i mentioned ace hardware is cause they do chipped keys now, I had a replacement key made for my dx, they took a blank unprogrammed key and cut it and then programmed it using my old key for $30 so that i now have 2 keys. and $30 for a chipped key isnt bad at all.
pm'd.
