Engine Cleaning

I've search for this topic and others like it and I couldn't find an answer. I think many of the good threads were deleted because people like Civicdude said to search for "engine cleaning" and there are no threads on it.

I understand the idea of washing and degreasing the engine but I still have no idea exactly what to keep covered while doing it. My car is all stock under the hood and I'm just planning to use a regular green garden hose with my thumb on it to get better pressure. So what exactly should I be covering??
Thanks.

Start the car...Tell you the honest truth....you dont need to cover anything. What I do is I spray the fenders, hood, front end, and windshield down with water...Pop the hood. Shut off the engine. Spray down the whole engine with gunk or simple green diluted with water. If it is really filthy go over the engine with a wet towel or was mitt. I also spray under the hood and wash that down with the wet was mitt too. I then start the car again and hose the under neath of the hood and the engine compartment. After all the soap and chemical is hosed off I let the engine run for 5 to 10 minutes and I then shut the enigine off, and wipe off the exccess water with a dry towel. I then spray the entire engine down with a silicone based tire shine and wipe the excess off after ten minutes of it drying. Bam your done with the engine compartment. Always make sure the engine is running when you are spraying water on it. AS for searching:

Spray the entire motor down. I just did my dads car, he has a 2002 lx coupe. I sprayed the entire motor down with the degresser and then started the car and hosed it off. You will not have a problem, if you are worried about spraying certain things, then cover them.

You dont even need the CD2 stuff. You are only buying a name. Use the simple Green or Engine gunk and tire shine to make it shiny....

Simple Green is what we use in the shop. Works the best for the price.
