detailing help needed

I just purchased a buffer, but quite honestly I have never detailed a car to the point of needing one. I just purchased a pre owned Honda Civic LX, which needs a detail especially with the paint. I washed it and cleaned it to the best of my ability, however you can tell that the paint has some rough film over the paint, like the car was sitting outside for a very, very long time. I would like to use some rubbing compound, etc but honestly speaking I don't know what materials I need to get this job done the right way. I have never needed to use a buffer before because all of my previous vehicles are garaged kept and always washed and waxed but this car is another different story...

So can anyone direct me as to what I need to buy and how I can proceed with this project? Thank you in advance~

Hi there, can you post some pictures of the paint? Your paint may have clear coat failure in which case buffing is not going to fix the issue.

The Optimum poliseal is a good product. It polishes the surface, can remove light scratches and seals the paint.

Sounds to be like your clear coat (the actual "shine" to your paint) has faded due to oxidization / the sun beating on its *** for years... You need to re-clear coat the panel or the entire car... Doesnt neccessarily mean you have to paint the entire car. Clear coat and paint are 2 diff things. I dont think buffing will help. But, try 3 step or 2 step waxes. Such as G6 cutting compound, then couple it with some sort of carinoba (sp?) wax / any waxing product really.

Re: detailing help needed

Pics are needed to see the extent of the paint fade ...?

this is a timely 3 step process so be patient if You want results.

if its just faded paint You can use Maguires Ultra compound

does a great job at revivng the paint back You might need to re-apply

it twice buff let dry to haze wipe off. apply let dry wipe off

for optimal results. then apply maguires ultimate Polish this will

bring back more of the coloure that was lost in the paint back out

again let it dry to a haze wipe off. then use maguires ultimate Wax

this Wax is the final step at sealing in all the work you did and protecting it and that's it.
