cleaning leather interior??
i've got the beige leather interior in my coupe and its getting these off color dirty looking kinda dirt stains on the seats. i was just wondering what you guys use or recomend on cleaning it and keeping the leather in good lasting condtion.
I had leather on my last car (not present civic) I loved the mothers leather cleaner/conditioner. The stuff worked well and smelt great. I didn not like the meguires just because it really left a film on the seats. It was too thick. I recommend the mothers, just read the instructions and you should be happy with the end results. Do this about once a month or so desired, using it too often will loosen up the leather and make it really gummy.
I use turtlewax leather cleaner and conditioner 2 in one. They clean pretty good and leave a clean "New Leather" scent in your car for weeks. I never tried anything else because i've only had the seats for about two weeks, but Im pretty satisfied with its results.

If the stains are really bad...then regular leather cleaner is not going to work. I recommend going to the store and buying Simple Green. Use it according to how it says on the back of the bottle. Make sure you dilute it with water. Spray it on the seat or on the rag and wipe it in good. You will get off the dirt with this product. After you Clean the leather, you are going to want to condition it. Especially after using such a harsh cleaner on the leather. I recommend getting lexol, or gliptone, or any quality leather conditioner. If you use a cream conditioner, Put about half a golf ball size into the palm of your hand and wipe it into the leather. After you wipe down all the leather, go over the interior with a clean dry terry towel. If you use leather conditioner in a spray, spray the seat well, and then wipe it in witha foam wax pad that is clean. MAke sure there arent any other chemicals on the wax pad. After you wipe it in, go over the interior with a dry clean terry towel.

I know that some of the dealers use mineral spirits to get spots of the leather on used cars. I have had leather before and if you get a stain it is almost there for good. I had a stain in my accord and the guy at the dealer comes out with some mineral spirits and I was like, "no thanks!" It stayed there, although I got it to lighten up quite a bit. I tried numerous conditioners and the turtle wax was my favorite, even over the expensive ones. It made the leather real soft, and slippery, which I love, and lasted a lot longer than any thing else I used.
I haven't done this yet, but have heard it works wonders. 3M has a product called a red scotch brite pad. These pads are used in the prep process for paint. The pad is similar to that of a dish washing pad. Anyway, you take one of these and a bucket of water. Soak the pad in the water to soften it and then LIGHTLY (I can't stress this enough) work over the stained surface. The roughness of the pad gets into the cracks of the leather and brings out the dirt. After stain is removed, quickly wipe off excess water. Then condition the leather. I suggest a product made by a company called production, Prime. It does an excelent job on leather and is fairly cheap. It can be bought at any sherwin williams automotive store.
Before going nuts with this I do suggest trying a smaill hidden area first until you feel comfortable using this method.
