most unbelievable detailing stories thread
post em up! whats the worst thing you've seen when it comes to detailing a car.
-i saw someone with a 2000 black SI spray his car down in a wash bay, drive it out and then proceed to wipe it dry with blue shop towels. mind you the car was still filthy with dirt. i was shocked.
-someone pulled out a cali car duster that looked black and proceeded to dust off the car that was covered in mud and grime. it actually made it look worse after he was done.
-my friend saw someone in the bay washing his car with a bucket of pine-sol.

i was gonna put that too. there is an accord here full HFP kitted and rimmed beautiful except there has been a thick layer of dust and dirt on the entire car for oh at least a 1/2 year. i think it also has a garage because the crazy rain here would wash it for him.
Ive seen this ALOT:
People who wash their (car) bodies with the mop/stick thingy after they wash their tires at coin-op car washes.
Whenever i see that, it just makes me cry..well not really, i just laugh

bugs....
Down here in Florida and I am sure many other sttes, we havelove bugs that cover the front of your car while driving. They are asy to take off but my friends wife did not have them taken off for like 3 months and they ate through the paint.

Yeah, saw something similar to that on a new altima. She couldn't get it off, and thought a pressure washer right up to the bug would do it. Instead, it took a quarter size chunk of paint off.
Alright, I got a world beater. A friend of mine, who is not a car person, knew I was into detailing and so he called me one day in a panic. He said "I washed my truck like someone suggested and I think it messed it up." and so I said "What did you do now?" and he said, brace yourself
"This guy said to mix eggs in with water, like 6 to a gallon, mix it up and use that instead of soap. Then once you get it all over, let it dry in the sun for a few hours. (this was a 110 degree day) Then rinse it off."
I couldn't believe it, so I went over to his house and looked at it, it had totally screwed his clear coat up. So he got it recleared and now pays me to detail his car. lol I still can't believe it.

I can resist everything except temptation.

In our apartment complex we have a spot to wash cars, and the other day when I was washing, another lady came over to wash hers at the same time. She has some new car made by GM...little blue pontiac something or other. Anyhow, the story is bad enough already, but it starts out that she doesn't rinse her car at all first. To wash the car she takes a dish rag, wets it, squirts DAWN on it...then goes to down with dawn and a wet dish rag. Wipes down the entire dirty *** car that way. Then she rinses. I almost cried.
On the same note with these folks liking to use towells instead of sponges...then we have the gentleman who washes his mustang with a rag...and starts by cleaning his bling blings...THEN he washes the rest of the car with the same rag he just cleaned his wheels with.
Thats all I've got for now

My friends STI, coin power was with the dirty brush, 1 wheel then the roof, another wheel then the hood, another wheel you get the idea. And before that there was a guy in the bay clearing a pickup bed with the brush, all leaves and yard crap.
I'm not biased, I hate everyone equally!

The worst thing I've seen while detailing is when I first started working at Honda in the detail shop, a girl brought in her celica to be detailed and said there was a "smell" in the car and asked if we could get rid of it. It was the most disgusting smell ever! We found the source though...she had some towels in the back of her car, her cat had gotten back there under the towels and had kittens. She let that "stuff" sit in the car for 2 weeks before bringing it to be cleaned....in July heat!!!!
I heard of someone who took their car down to the lake and washed it not realizing it was salt water. It ate right through all the paint. The best part is it was her brother's car, he was pissed.
I've got a bit of a doozy. We have pine trees by my house and in the summer time they drip sap. Everywhere. So I am smart enough to not park my car beneath them, my friends aren't. So my one friend gets a few globs of sap on his windshield and a big honking one on his hood. He used a straight razor to scrape the sap off the windshield(it just spread it and make it worse) but he also used it on the hood!
Needless to say, he now has to get his hood repainted.

i had a friend in highschool play a prank on one of the teachers. it was the anual car-wash pledge drive. he poured ASSATONE (sorry dont know the correct spelling.) in the soap and washed the teachers car. well it just so happened that this teacher went to all the group carwashes to help rase monney. (bout 7-8 groups) by the time the last group washed her car the paint was smearing off with evrey wipe. one of the students knoticed and though he was washing the car too hard and refused to touch it again. so he got detenton for 2 days. turns out that the princable got note of the prank and not only did my friend get expeled but also had to pay for a new paintjob for the teachers car. the kid with a detneton was later fogivin by the school by letting him have a automatic A on the test of his choice. he saved it for the calculus final :P

man i dont have anything redic, but my friend wanted me to help him detail his car, so i drove over to his apt place, and told him how to wash it, and gave him my brand new mitt and told him not to drop it. What does he do... drops it. I think he was finished washing the top portion of his car though. Geeze.
I wonder how many people would buy a new one, vs the people that would just rinse it off, or spend an hr picking the crap outta there, never know if you got it all... I think it should become my new lowerbody and hubcap mitt.

Lets see...My mom using dish soap, crappy towels to scratch..I mean, dry the car, and well, anything my mom does when wasing a car! Oh yeah, one time she used a dried out absorber to dry the car!
My neighbors would wash their vehicles in the middle of the summer, in direct sunlight.
And me when I was very young and stupid, "washing" my dads truck with a wet absoreber...only!
