waxing too much hurts the clear coat?
my friend told me that if i wax too often it will hurt the clear coat or something. i usually wax my car once a year mayb twice b.c it takes me forever for some reason. but anyways is that true?
I don't think waxing will hurt the clear coat. What will hurt the clear coat, is rubbing compound. It acts as an abrasive to remove scratches/scuffs. If used excessively, you will eventually "burn" throught the clear coat and in to the paint.
No way. Waxing protects the clear coat. And if you only wax the car once or twice a year, youre waxing at the suggested intervals. Waxing more than 2x a year will just cause wax build up, which also cant hurt. Without wax is where the clear coat is subject to harm from the weather.
Carnuba wax only lasts a couple of weeks, maybe a couple of months, maybe, not likely. Sealant will last a few months, maybe six with the high quality stuff, but more like 3-4 months max.
Waxing incorrectly can cause swirls, especialy on black paint, that is why you should apply it in a back and forth motion instead of circular.
Using a clean and appropriate applicator with a back and forth motion to apply wax, or applying it with a Dual Action polisher, will not hurt your paint. People wax there cars every week or so with no ill effects.

i use turtle wax and is usually lasts a few months (still beads water, looks shiny). a few times a year is really all you need and yea it protects clear coat not hurt it.
Maybe a cleaner wax with polish or other polish/waxes, but not pure sealant or wax.
Here is some proof:
"CAN I WAX TOO OFTEN?
Today's paints ARE softer and thinner than previous years. If you're going to wax less than six times a year, our MOTHERS® Original Formula Wax with Cleaners (either paste or liquid) or MOTHERS® Reflections® Polish are great products to use. If you're going to wax more often, consider stepping up to our Ultimate Wax System® - this way you can control the amount of cleaner being used on your paint, and the added step of Sealer and Glaze will give you that extra "pop" in your paint finish."

I can resist everything except temptation.

Waxing will not hurt the clear coat at all. Espically if what you're using is just wax (not a cleaner-wax). The only way you will weaken the clear coat is if you were to take a machine buffer (not an orbital buffer sold at walmart) and buff at high speeds to create the heat needed to diminish the clear.
please explain what you mean about applying wax in a straight, back/fourth motion.
Rather than in the circular motion (wax on/ wax off style, a la Karate Kid)
I've always been told to apply and remove in a circular motion
