clear coat on rims?

in the past, i would have problems with the polished lip getting spots and corroiding. now that my buddy just got some polished lip rims, he wants to add a clear coat or something onto his wheels so his doesnt end up like mine. id like to know if their is anything out their that he can use so his polished lip wont fade, spot, peel, etc? if it matters, their some sort of glossy black finish with the polished lip.

any suggestions? preferably stuff available at autozone/kragen/pepboys that doesnt require professional shop service

They make a clear coat aerosol spray that is for wheels. Its a very high gloss and its made by VHT called Clear Lacquer. There is also one made that you can buy at most auto paint supply shops, home depot, or autozone and its made by SEM. Make sure you CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN the wheels before you do it. They will still get water spots, but thats up to you to clean off. This will definetly help the surface maintain a better shine though.

Just use a couple coats of some good sealant wax, like wolfgang or klasse. And wax like every time you wash your car, cause the sealant wears off quicker.

Also, treat them like your paint, using a polish meant for metal on clear coated rims is not good.

agreed. wash the rims with a good car wash once a week and throw a coat of wax every now and then.
