I have had my car for 5 months and I have pollished it twice. I usually wax my car every month and pollish it every other month. But thats just me. Polish won't hurt the car in the least as long as you don't do it on a regular bases. The more wax...the better
Hope this helps!!....Late

Polish if usually only applied if the paint seems to be dull. This shouldn't be the case on a new car. Polish will aso take the wax off of your car. Instead you should wax it. I like to do it about once a month, 2 thin coats do the job. Better to do two thin than 1 globby layer.

2 thin coats also assure a complete coverage.
exactly, I also like to first use a cleaner wax, (depending on the surface status) then some good old quality wax by hand, no need for any of that orbital stuff = more personalized and can also be relaxing

I need a buffer bad. My NBP civic had light swirl marks and surface scratches when I bought it. I swear, you look at black and it gets a scratch. Anyhow, I went over the car 2 times with some 3m swirl remover, 2 times with meguiars deep crystal polish, and 2 times with meguiars gold class car wax, then washed it. My sholder was sore for 3 days straight. I want the 200 meguiar buffer so I am having to save up....

Civicdude, check out what I did in my above post. I have a red car and 3 white ones. The red looked brillant simply by waxing every so often. The white, I would polish and then wax and they look good too. But this black is driving me nuts. I can't stand seeing the swirl marks and I can see some haze from the waxing, polishing, etc...I have never really had these problems before. I can be pretty perfectionist, to the extreme, when it comes to taking care of my paint.
I know you're a professional detailer so I thought you could help me out. Do I really need a buffer to completely get rid of the swirl marks. They are very light and can only be seen up close. Any tips or techniques for me for overall care?

It depends on the polish. With some polishes, you can use it as much as you want. I know for a fact that you can use Liquid Glass as many times as you want with no side effects, and with Zaino's also. I read a guy that used 23 coats of Zaino's on his Corvette. That is ridiculous, especially since the car was like 5 months old at the time or something like that. I'm currently on my 2nd coat of Zaino's cleaner, fixing to put another on, in addition to 2 coats of Zaino's polish, same thing on my dad's Vette. No problems here.
