Whats A Good Way To Black Out Tail Lights?

hey guys... im looking for a way to black out my red tail lights but not fully blacking it out...kinda like tinting windows but only like 30 percent black. I want to give it a dark look to match the rims and the blacked out headlights. I'm assuming the only way to black out the tail lights partly but still giving it the transparent look is by using tint paper? is there any other methods or products out there to do this?

thanks alot.

go to www.stickercity.com if u want to put a tinted sheet over them, i used to have them over my headlights but i picked the darkest version and i couldnt see **** so i took them off, or u can open them up and black them out but of course thats a lot harder, u can check out the diy on that one http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=209168

thanks for the reply... but actually im looking for a way to give it a lighter black look to it... the tail lights in the diy are too dark. I have red tail lights and i just want to add a dark shade to it without totally blacking it out.

if you buy the tint spray that is on the diy you can control the darkness by how many layers you put on it

If you use an even overlapping spray pattern, the spray tint works great. Light coats is the way to go with any spray paint, but this way you can control how dark it is. Before you recoat, let it dry for 30 minutes and see what you think about the shade, if you want it darker then do it again.

has anyone ever used the stickercity decals for tailights yet? I was going to take my tails to a tint shop and see how much it would cost. Im pretty sure an experienced tinter with a heat gun could get the film to lay down flat on the tails.

When you goto spray, have the lights side by side and do both with one pass. Hopefully that way whatever you do to one will happen to the other.

Can anyone post any pictures of these StickerCity.com covers? I just want to see the difference between the 20% and the 35%. I am going to get a set but I don't want to deal with being too dark or too light.

I would imagine that you can look at 20% or 35% window tint and get the idea.

over time wouldnt the tint start to get scratched and lose its gloss being on the outside of the light

I just used a Polycarbonate safe spray tint. I got a few cans of it from my local hobby shop. Tamiya Smoke spray paint.

I'm happy with the results and I MAY clear coat them. I kinda like how they look now though.

I bought some static tint film off ebay and it works great. It is 35% it gives the tail lights a light smoke. It's raining right now but i'll take some pics later.

Sorry took it with my cell phone.

I have the lighter of the two tints. It goes on pretty easy just have to be careful when you wash it. The best part is if you get pulled over you can take it off and put it back on when you get home.
