Do a search on engine cleaning. A while ago there were plenty of posts chock full of good engine cleaning ideas. Ill briefly describe what I do.
)I leave the engine running for 5 minutes or so to get it warm.
)Hose off the fenders, hood, front end, windshield etc...so when you spray the chemical on the engine it doesnt streak the paint.
)Spray the engine down with engine gunk, simple green(diluted according to instructions on the bottle)
)Take a wash cloth or wash mitt that you you dont use on the paint or outside of the car and go over the engine with the soapy wash mitt, also dont forget to spray and wash the under part of the hood, and fenders, basically clean the entire engine bay.
)Start the engine
)Hose down the bottom of the hood and inside of the engine bay, and the fenders, front of the car, hood, and windshield to get the remaining chemical off the cars paint.
)Let the car run for 5 minutes or so.
)Take a towel and dry off the rest of the engine. if there is any grease you missed clean with the towel and degreaser by hand.Make sure you wear gloves.
)After the engine is dry, spray the engine with tire shine. I use a silicone based product. Try not to use Armorall or any product like that because it can cause the hoses and plastics to crack. It also doesnt last as long as a silicone based product like Black magic, or tire wet.
