Okay pick a warmer day when it'll be around 70. They say you should detail your car in the shade, so try and park under a tree. It's not too late to do it right. I know cars that are many years old and have never been waxed. Here's what you do and what I use--works great.
1) Wash the car with a car wash concentrate from store
2) Clay the car with Claymagic or Mothers kit. This involves spraying on detailer and rubbing a clay bar over the paint. It removes surface dirt. (I've never done this yet due to time constranits, and you can skip this step if your car looks clean after washing.)
3) Wash car again if you clayed it, otherwise go to next step.
4) Pick up a high quality glaze (I use Meguiar's #7 show car glaze). If you use mine, you should apply it to the whole car and let it sit for 30 mins. Then use clean cloths to wipe it all off. The glaze is what makes the paint shiny and may give that wet look (only on darker cars will be noticable).
5) Get a good quality carnauba wax. I use Meguiar's #26 Hi tech yellow wax. It's a polymer based wax that provides good protection against UV and rain. KIT is a regular carnauba that lasts much longer. For wax, just apply to small sections at a time and buff it out when it dries to a haze.
6) When you're all done, wipe down the whole car with a microfibre towel to ensure there are no smudges from leftover wax.
That's all. Took me a couple hours to do and your car will be sparkling and ready for winter. Hope this helps.
