engine cleaning?

yall clean the engine..if so can i just hose it down..but then im worried about the wiring n things..its hasnt been cleaned for almost 3 years now ..lemme know what yall do..thanks

Would a cracked block be obvious...my buddy sprayed down his engine hot the other day and i told him he is gonna crack something...
