D17a1 swap too d17a2

I’ve seen mixed answers. I’m planing on swapping my 2005 lx special edition to a d17a2
I seen you can use the stock harness but can I use the stock exhaust.

so my question is can I use my headers from the d17a1 and exhaust for the d17a2. Are the header bolt pattern the same to the heads on both engines.

Re: D17a1 swap too d17a2

If you want VTEC to work, you will need a D17a2 harness. Otherwise you have to run the wires for the VTEC solenoid. You will also need the D17a2 ECU which will then require immobilizer programming. It's been a long time but I believe both O2 sensor connectors are part of the engine harness for the D17a1. If you use the D17a2 exhaust you will need to modify the harness again. Either exhaust will bolt up to the head just fine.

Are you doing this for performance gains?

no the engine is blown I’m swapping it. It is hard to find a non vtec engine. I found a vtec one with 124k miles and a non vtec with 160k miles for around the same price. I want the one with lower miles ofc, but I’ve been doing a lot of research and I see a lot of different stuff soo I don’t really know what it is right. Ig there is the right way and the way to save money. I seen on these forums that a guy used his stock ecu, exuasht and ran wire like you said with no problems. Should I just get the non vtec for plug and play or try to put in the vtec motor

Re: D17a1 swap too d17a2

manifold bolt patterns where it mates to the head are the same. Differences are going to be OEM manifold length, downpipe length, and cat location (and O2 sensor locations, by default). The D17A2 downpipe mates higher up than the A1 and has the cat at the tail end of said midpipe.

If you're only interested in having a running car, simply swap the engine. Everything will bolt up and work like a D17a1. You will not have a connector for the VTEC solenoid but that is okay.

or if you're feeling frisky, A1 head on A2 block (which is opposite what most people do. lol)
