04 civic. Piston rings brand. OEM vs. aftermarket

Rebuilding my engine and removed the pistons and rings
04 Civic, 1.7 Engine DX

Honda piston rings are $57 a set so it’s about $260 for four pistons
Please share your experience with aftermarket brands in
performance power, etc?
loudness
oil smoke
basically the performance of both the compression and oil rings
Thanks in advance

Recently replaced piston rings on a different Honda engine. Tried aftermarket first, rings never seated after 1,500 miles. Huge oil consumption. Coughed up the ~$200 for OEM and haven't had a problem since.

thanks for the reply. Ok I’ll buy the Honda’s OEM
Some website offers the OEM at little bit lower price than the Estore but I’m not sure if they are legit

Re: 04 civic. Piston rings brand. OEM vs. aftermarket

This is my first time to rebuild an engine so I have One more question please
No rubbing marks on the pistons themselves and cleaned them very well. Now this engine has 200k miles on it and I was thinking about replacing the PIN that connects the connecting rod to the piston for fatigue concerns since this is the connecting rod pushing for those so many miles.
What people do as a good practice when it comes to parts to replace even no current signs of damage?Replacing the connecting rod, the pin, etc?
thanks

Re: 04 civic. Piston rings brand. OEM vs. aftermarket

Personally, i would think that the rod bearings would let go before a wrist pin.
I'm assuming your looking for another 200k in the engine?
if so, you may want to have a machine shop install new rod and main bearings. Let them install the bottom end of the engine...along with the pistons and rings.
Let them worry about proper ring gap and bearing gaps. I recently did my race engine, and it's a pain in the arzzz if you don't have all the tools...
