Intake Manifold...OBX?

Ok I know the options are extremely limited with swapping our plastic crap out. Havent had any luck finding a JDM Fabtech one, and even if I did I dont imagine the price is very reasonable. I have contimplated a Y8 swap but would rather something with shorter runners and a larger plenum. Looking at aftermarket intakes for the d16, most, like the skunk 2 appear to be to long and would hit the firewall, but I was looking at the OBX and it appears to be shorter than stock. I was wondering If anyone has tried this or has one that they can measure so I can check if it will fit before going down this road.

Thanks.

Any word on this?
I'm contemplating doing an intake swap on my seventh generation D15B as well, but I'm not sure where to start.

Well your options are much more broad, especially if you swap to a d16 head...the d17 is the one that OP is having issues with.

Educate me then. I thought the D15B and D17A(1&2) were the same in the seventh generation civic. I currently don't know what intake manifold options I have available.

Re: Intake Manifold...OBX?

The D17 uses coil on plug ignition, and is much more advanced and than the D15, and the intake ports are slightly different between the d15 and the d17. You'll have much more luck bolting up a d16y8 intake (OEM or aftermarket) than someone with a d17. That being said, seeing as how it's still a 7th gen, you will have the same clearance issues. The skunk II intake's runners are a little long, but, because most of us who don't want to cut the firewall, the d16y8 OEM intake manfold will work, and offer better airflow than the stock manifold. Pretty much the only other option is something custom, or the fabtech, which costs $1000-ish or more.

What I'm saying, is that most aftermarket intakes will bolt up and work without a bunch of modifications to the head, but there still will be a space issue for some.

No, hold on there. I know what you are saying, but my D15B also uses the same coil on plug design (distributorless). Its just in a JDM EP1/EP2 civic that isn't in your market like the K20A EP3.
I have the PLE2 head (like the PLE5)so I'd be in the same boat as the D17A2

Re: Intake Manifold...OBX?

Oh, well my mistake then. In that case, you're right, you're pretty much limited to the same options as the rest of us...y8 intake + tuning, skunk 2 + firewall reconstruction, or fully custom manifold.

Re: Intake Manifold...OBX?

Sorry guys havent bit the bullet on trying this yet. Just ended up changing some charge piping around on the car and making a 2 1/2" exhaust. Managed to run a 14.02 at the track without slicks though.

Re: Intake Manifold...OBX?

For the D17A, is the automatic intake manifold and IACV the same as the manual one?
