If you did not make sure the locksmith knows you replaced the immobilizer (control) unit, you're at fault for withholding critical information from the one person who NEEDED to know.
The scanner cannot tell anyone what specifically is wrong as far as diagnosing an immobi problem.
Even the dealership level scanner can only tell me whether the immobi system is judged as normal; or not.
A good scanner is a very powerful tool, but if used incorrectly it can do expensive damage,.
A pro aint gonna 'just try some of them other program thingys' because "bricking a control unit" during many types of 'programming' is a very real possibility with some vehicles and systems. Dude aint wanting that kinda monetary risk on any job.

Re: Need correct Immobilizer tool for 2005 civic
search internet for locksmiths that have key programming tools.
It's not like it was in the past that only dealers can program the keys.
It's now more widespread, so they can program keys now.

Re: Need correct Immobilizer tool for 2005 civic
Never heard of anyone selling the tool, I would take the immobilizer receiver off the key cylinder and see if you can hold the key in the receiver and start the car with an unprogrammed key. I did this with my truck
Re: Need correct Immobilizer tool for 2005 civic
I actually bought a tool for the Mazda 5 2014 The tool number was H100....you can buy them on Ebay....programmed 3 keys in under 5 minutes...so you can why I'd sooner buy the tool and do it myself

Re: Need correct Immobilizer tool for 2005 civic
Ive been dealing with mine for a few monthes now, initially the green key light stopped coming on, now I've got a new transponder (the thing in the steering column that actually reads the chip in your key) and it made my light start working again but now its flashing(which I anticipated) but now im in the same boat as you, i need to know if i can just program my keys and it will work, I saw one person say in a post that they bought a key cloning machine and just sold it when they were done like you said, i just would like to know if thats all i need to do. So i still have my original keys, and ecu, the only thing i canged was the transponder

this is the cheapest one ive found so far if someone can help i would be grateful

Well question first....is your car a 2005 Honda civic?
Now this is the one that's on it's way to me https://www.ebay.com/itm/293164223940, the cost is a little bit more but if you check it out and check what vehicles it is compatible with it might be your better option.
In regards to changing the transponder it's self...I would suggest a visit to YouTube and searching that out. I found a video for you This video shows your exact situation the only thing different will be the immobilizer coding machine. These machines walk you through the process. I found it worked great for doing the Mazda when I used the H100.
I have a key that works I just want 2 keys.
Let me know how you make out

If you went to the Ebay link I left you will see a compatibility chart once the page finishing loading. Change the settings to see if it compatible with your car.

Re: Need correct Immobilizer tool for 2005 civic
Ok so I changed my immobilizer/transponder in the steering column, which made my green light start working again, had a locksmith come by yesterday, he had a 18,000$ computer and said he had done 1,000s of hondas, his machine was saying the keys were stored on my car or immobilizer (wherever they are stored once programmed to my car) and still my green light is blinking like its the wrong key. He even cut me a brand new key, programmed it, same thing, he cleared all the keys from the system, tried all 3 one at a time (my original 2 plus new one) and nothing, still flashing light, this guy was totally legit, had a mobile garage/workshop in his van, brand new uncut keys for hundreds of different cars, had about 3 different key cutting machines and tells me hes NEVER seen a car do what mine is doing. So any help or advice from anyone would be great Thanks

My best guess would be your Electronic Control Unit...the ECU as they call it.....Next ...I'd contact a licensed fully certified mechanic and ask him for sure that this is where your Immobilizer gets the GO---NO...GO information....Here is a link or two to explain it.

Re: Need correct Immobilizer tool for 2005 civic
Ok I'm happy to report that my civic is alive and well!
After the professional lock smith came and had no luck, a friend of mine was finally able to borrow a high dollar obd computer from his work and bring it by for us to try.
It looked very similar to the one the locksmith had but this time I sat in a watched everything because he told me he wasn't very familiar with the computer so after we hooked a fully charged battery to my car (I don't think the battery was the problem when the locksmith was here) we were getting the same result when trying to add keys but this obd computer was giving us suggestions as to what might be wrong.
and they were similar to what was suggested above (another device causing noise or interference, a break in the wires, a low battery) but it also gave a suggestion that said something about the immobilizer control unit not being original or something
I wish I would have documented better, but it said something about programming the ecu)
So, on the first menu after selecting 'Immobilizer' from the main menu, there was a few options, add a key, all keys lost, and one that said something like reprogram ECU, and there may have been more, I dont know if the locksmith's had this option or not but my friend's did.
After a few attempts of trying to just add keys and the green light continuing to blink, we tried the reprogram ECU option, it asked for the VIN number, it communicated for a few seconds, and after that we added the keys again and bingo, the car fires right up.
I don't know if the locksmith had that option or not, I would think if it did then he would have tried it, even though at first it looked like something I would want to avoid, after one of the trouble shooting suggestions mentioned it I was willing to try and it worked.
So I guess even though I have read other accounts of immobilizer problems where people changed out their immobilizer control unit and added keys and off they go, mine required the immobilizer control unit to be matched to my ecu, then the keys added to the immobilizer control unit before it worked.
I hope if anybody else has this problem they don't have to go through all the crap that I did and maybe my struggle can help them.
Thanks to everyone for the help and tips.

Thanks, glad to see that you finally got it working.
We are not really familiar with what the dealers or locksmith do, so good to know there are other ways for them to solve the issue.

Re: Need correct Immobilizer tool for 2005 civic
I did tell the locksmith that I had replaced the immobilizer control unit, thats why it was so weird that he hadn't had this same issue before in his "thousands of hondas". I told him over the phone everything that I had done and he said "so you just need your keys matched to the new ICU, no problem, should take about 5 minutes." Which is what seems to be the case with most peoples from what I have read. I'm not sure if mine was some unique circumstance or what but like I said, after we tried the "reprogram ECU" option on my friends computer everything worked fine. Either way I'm glad it worked and hopefully this little nugget of information might help someone else in the future.
Oh and my friend's computer also detected that my immobilizer control unit was not the original one, I cant remember exactly what it said, something about original VIN id or something, but it was pretty much identical to the one the locksmith had other than his had a wireless link from the OBD port to the computer where the locksmiths had an actual cord running to the OBD port.
