Red face Time to bite the bullet

ok, My engine started making a knocking noise, I feel that i t would be easier to get a motor from JDM in either new york or cali. heres a video of the knocking..
Anyway, since the car started slipping form fifth gear( Even after a transmission flush, plus making noise in low gears) I decided to rebuild my transmission.
Now, I'm fairly knowledgable in mechanics, I have done the clutch twice, replaced half shatfs, all tie rods, clutch master cylinder( Which kinda sucked).and numerous other stuff.
What I was wondering is, the transmission shop wants close to 800-900 to rebuild the manual tranny, Am i able to do it on my own? I have access to my work shop, so i will be inside. Just looking on a sclae of 1-10.
I have too much time and money invested int he car to sell or scrap it, might as well fix it.

Re: Time to bite the bullet

You aren’t supposed to flush the transmission, so it doesn’t shock me that it needs rebuilding. That wouldn’t explain why 5th is slipping. Sounds like a worn clutch. I’d buy a used trans instead of rebuilding. Unless you flush, they rarely fail.

There’s no audio, by the way.

Re: Time to bite the bullet

the problem is finding out what is worn out, can you measure gears, synchros that are worn, not broken?
do you mean the 5th gear is popping out or the clutch is slipping?
