Cant remove aftermarket shift knob?
Cant remove aftermarket shift ****?
Hello everyone, I have a 2005 civic cpe, just purchased it. The previous owner replaced the shift **** with a blue metal ball and I am not a fan of it. The **** was on tight, so I used some pliers and got it turning but now it just spins and wont unthread from the shift lever. Any ideas? Many thanks for your help.

Can stick the open end of a wrench beneath the ball and then smack the underside of the wrench to try and force it off.
However depending on what the previous owner did it may be way easier to just grab another shifter from a junkyard

Good idea, im thinking replacing the shift box would be easiest. Looks like its a few bolts and undo the cables.
Are the shift boxes the same 2001-2005 and 2dr and 4dr?
Thanks!

Re: Cant remove aftermarket shift ****?
Yep, they're the same across the board for 01-05s. Even RSX base rock the same shifter assembly. If the **** is stuck and you're gonna replace the assembly, you're gonna have to swap the boot, too, so keep that in mind.
Otherwise, removing the shifter assembly is 4 bolts holding it down, a couple pins for the cables
edit: and a couple metal clips holding the shaft of the cables to the assembly

Re: Cant remove aftermarket shift ****?
I guess I should clarify more. That's not including all the clips and screws holding the center console down. You need to get those out of the way to remove the shifter assembly. If you want something quality, and can still find it, the Revo Technica short shifter was amazeballs. Shortened throw, shortened height by a hair, precise, non-sloppy feel. Upgrade the shifter base bushings to aluminum and you have yourself a solid shifting setup.
well, i'll be damned, it's still around.

one of the best $100 I spent on my 2002 civic, tbh, and mine was the V1 that didn't have the extra adjustability. Otherwise, Honda p/n 54100-S5A-003 is what you wanna look for. $94 on hondaautomotiveparts, com, probably $200 at a dealership.
