My 2002 civic (AT) slipped into neutral during bumper to bumper traffic...

So I was in bumper to bumper traffic today and i tap on the gas and the engine just revs with no acceleration. I manage to pull to the side with whatever momentum I had left, barely.

I turned off and on my car and it still didn't work. Just revs. I wait 15 minutes and then my car is able to move, but I tried it at like less than 1mph just to nudge myself over to the right more. I didn't want to chance it, so I waited for AAA.

Do you guys think my tranny is a goner? I'm thinking of trying to take it into a mechanic to see what he can do. I'm hoping a tranny fluid change would fix things...

I see a complete transmission in your future....

You should have had it towed there with the first tow truck.
Be ready to need another tow truck....or spend a lot of time on the side of the road waiting to go again.

Usually when one of these "just quits pulling", and pulls again for a short if you shut it off and wait a few... the internal filter is full of debris. Time for a trans overhaul or replacement.
