ugly noise while in first and second gear
ugly noise while in first and second gear
my 01 civic lx makes a raspy noise when i am acellerating between 1000 to 2000 rpm driving straight . just replaced clutch thinking through out bearing was bad or broken preasure plate, but not the case at all. the car still makes the same noise. now im reading storys of of exhaust manifolds cracking wondering does the exhaust manifold have a crack ? is the noise im hearing a exhaust leak? maybe its a cv halfshaft or a bad wheel bearing? i know its not the heat shields cause i took those off already. any help would be great thanks in advance
Re: ugly noise while in first and second gear
Not sure what raspy sounds like.
It doesn't make the noise when you turn? Only going straight?
Bad wheel bearing would be a hum, pitch changing with speed.
Exhaust leak would simply make the exhaust sound louder, more so at high rpms.
CV shafts usually click/clunk, most of the time when turning.

Re: ugly noise while in first and second gear
it makes the noise any time im in gear 1st through 3rd a buddy of mine said it sounds like an exhaust leak maybe a cracked exhaust manifold ? hopefully not an input shaft bearing in transmission when i say raspy sound like pebbles in a tin can getting shaken really fast
Re: ugly noise while in first and second gear
Pebbles in a tin can? Maybe that cheap plastic housing broke on the shaft bearing. Pretty sure there's a sticky on it. As for cracks on the manifold, it can happen in different places, mine happened to be right down the middle.

As of today it's spread a little past the right side of that O2 sensor. As far as I've been able to tell, there's some extra noise in the engine bay, but not much and definitely not the sound you've been hearing. Looking at getting all that switched to an EX setup on Monday when the parts get here. Once that's in I can tell you what kind of sound the crack made. Kinda hard to single it out between all the extra stuff.

get under your car and see if your exhaust pipes are touching metal anywhere. i have a similar problem and it seems like it's just the pipe rattling against the car somewhere. probably right after the headers. i'll tell you what gearbox told me. get some exhaust wrap and clamps and wrap up any pipes touching anything.
removing the heatshield under the car probably gave it more room to move around and sound like ****.
ALWAYS start with the easiest solutions. dont fill your head with all the things that it could be. you'll waste so much money that way.

Re: ugly noise while in first and second gear
get an ex exhaust setup if you can afford all the parts. lx has a very bad manifold design.
