Single "click" noise when shifting gears

2005 Civic, MT, 116k

For the past couple months I've been having a single "click" as I'm releasing the clutch and start accelerating. Basically when the drivetrain goes from no torque put through it to abruptly having some, if that makes any sense. It also will click if I'm driving in a low gear, bring the revs up to 3k or so, then take my foot off the gas, when the car starts to decel it'll click.

If I'm real easy it only clicks *some* of the time.

It's never multiple clicks, just one. Seems to be coming from the right side.

It's a lot like the classic CV joint "click" but it doesn't do it when I turn. CV boots are not torn and don't appear to be leaking.

I read it could be the inner CV joint? I've always had the outer joint go out first, always after a torn boot.

Any ideas?

I have the same click noise. I have an auto transmission though. I can really hear it well when I am next to a curb or another car (the sound reflects back to me) and let off the gas.

I was just about to post the same question. I have been wondering this also.

sounds like a motor/transmission mount

Easy enough for a auto guy. Put it in gear and brake tourqe it with a bystander trying to locate it.
Manual trans guy, put the park brake on and with a combo of clutch and gas see if you can replicate it.

It looks like the front and transmission mounts have a crack all the way through the rubber, the left side mount looks fine and no oil leaking, I can't see the rear mount.

I read that I should use factory mounts because the aftermarket versions cause more vibrations, is this correct?

What about those inserts for the front mount?

Noticed mine was busted when I pulled the transmission. I replaced it with one from Napa. Quality seemed fine and it doesn't have any vibrations and NO clunk....

Polyurethane mounts are harder and cause more vibrations.

Poly replaces the rubber in the mount.
