2001 Honda civic over heating
Hey there new here. I have a 2001 Honda civic lx. My car is over heating and my heater sometimes and sometimes doesn’t work. The fans sometimes turn on for a split second and turn off. The fans do activate when the ac is on. The fuses haven blown and I took it to a shop and they replaced the fan switch. It worked for a while till it started to over heat again and the heater started to do te same crap. Need help it’s m daily driver.
update
it stopped overheating and the heater worked for a few days. I didn’t do anything to fix it just fixed on its own. I’ve been driving it for a few days now now today I drove it out of town and back and it was fine. But tonight it started doing the same crap. It first started off with the heater air going cold. Then the temps rising. It only did this at a stop but when I drove the temp with go back to normal and the heater would start to work again.

Re: 2001 Honda civic over heating
the e coolant doesn’t overflow. But I was reading some other forums that it can be a blown head gasket. I drove it this morning and ran fine and blew hot air while driving. Once I was coming to a stop and the rpm’s would be at 950-1000 the air would start to get cold. I noticed I only wants to over heat at idle
Re: 2001 Honda civic over heating
When the head gasket fails combustion gases get into the coolant. That pushes coolant out and into the reservoir. Air doesn't transfer heat like coolant does so the engine will overheat and you lose heat in the cabin.
Check coolant levels in the radiator and reservoir.

Hey I’ve made a post about my civic before for the same issue a month ago. Suddenly out of nowhere my car starts to heat up and the heater stops blowing warm air. It only doesn’t when I am at a stop when I’m driving it stops overheating and my heater starts to work again. The first time I took it to a shop they said it was the fan switch and fuses and relays were bad. Okay got it back a week later same crap. I did a combustion leak test no gasses in the coolant. After I did that the car went back to normal. A week later again with the same **** took it to the shop told me thermostat was stuck close. I got it back no longer over heating. Till another week goes by nd again over heating. I’m just annoyed and irritated at this point. I did a compression test and each 4 cylinders gave me a normal reading now I’m stuck on what to do next. Any advice helps.

Did you bleed the ever living crap out of the coolant system (with the heater on full blast)? Also, any signs of coolant leakage anywhere?
