Coolant loss

Hi,I own a 2003 Honda Civic 1700 LX.
In January I had a new radiator and thermostat fitted,as the old radiator was cracked at the top.Today I noticed that the fans were on,and the temperature gauge was slightly above half way,it’s normally just below half way.I checked the coolant, and had to top up the radiator with about a quarter of a pint of coolant, and the expansion bottle by about half a pint, any idea what’s going on,thanks!

Re: Coolant loss

Head gasket problems are common on this generation Civic. Keep an eye on the coolant levels in both the radiator and reservoir. If the radiator level drops but the reservoir increases that points to a bad head gasket. If the level in both drops that points to a coolant leak, you should see evidence of this.

Thank you for your reply, there is no creamy deposits around the inside of the oil filler cap,or on the dipstick,so I’m hoping it’s just a leak somewhere,a hose perhaps,a friend thinks it might be the water pump, but I had that replaced 3 years ago!

Re: Coolant loss

These cars don't show the common head gasket symptoms, pay attention to what brotato told you
