Replacing 2005 EX auto Speedometer, mileage carryover?
Replacing 2005 EX auto Speedometer, mileage carryover?
My speedometer needle started glitching out and is now stuck at 120+mph regardless of ignition position. I was wondering if I replace the gauge, will the original mileage of the car carry over to the new gauges odometer display, or will there need to be some type of adjustments made by a dealership? I want to make sure that everything stays legit before I replace it myself.
Thanks for your time.

No. Whatever gauge you swap in will contain the mileage of the car you swapped it from. Not sure what the implications are you get that remedied, or whether that’s actually legal.

depends on state?
you will need to have a document showing the mileage at which the cluster have been replaced and what is showing. (this is to prevent fraud, like putting a cluster showing a much lower mileage for the actual car).
Some companies can maybe roll the mileage if it is lower than the car? (I think they spin the cluster until it gets there)

Are you in a state where it's required? I'm not sure I'd even bother - just take a picture before you swap and then take the picture after. That documentation alone should be acceptable should you sell it in the future.

With a little bit of technical know how, you can run up the mileage on a cluster by yourself using a microcontroller. But, you can only add to the odometer, not subtract. Cluster will only read up to ~140 MPH which will take a long time. Adding 10k miles to the cluster will take 70+ hours.

UPDATE: I changed the cluster and it did not update the mileage. I got the mileage of whatever the original car the other cluster came from was. I was also dumb and didn't remove the battery when doing this change so the SRS light went off (reset cleared it). But PSA: disconnect battery for all electrical modifications!!
