Cruise control not working

Cruise control not working right after rolling over 100K on 2002 civic lx (canadian).
Never took it to a garage to get it looked at especially honda since the warranty is up now.

Any suggestion of what might have caused it? or what to look for to fix it? fuses? cables? resetting the ECU?
The curise control was used on highway driving....so its not for lack of use

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanx
Steve

there is that box thing, and you may want to first check the throttle cable for it (next to the one for gas). Does it not engage at all? it could be anything from bad switch to the actuator.

before doing anything, check the number 4, 7 and 10 fuses in the under dash fuse box. Also check and see if the horn sounds when you push it. If it doesnt, more then likely the number 7 fuse is blown since cruise control and the horn use the same fuse.

Now if those are all ok and you cant set the cruise control, then you need to check the main switch, the set/resume/cancel switch, the brake pedal position switch, the clutch pedal position switch if MT, range switch if automatic tranny, or the cruise control unit. You may also have a poor ground, or open circuit or disconnected terminals.

If you want I can help you check all of those if you have the time and have a DMM (digital multimeter).

Re: Cruise control not working

My cruise control is not working either. However, my green led comes on the switch located to the right of the steering wheel, but when I try to "set accel" nothing happens. The CRUISE light on the gauge cluster never lights up. Any suggestions for this CC problem?

Thanks in Advance,

Vince

Same here. Will check aforementioned fuses. Any other voice of experience with this problem?

Re: Cruise control not working

Old thread but very helpful. The cruise suddenly stopped working in my 01 LX yesterday. Followed the steps here, all good fuses and the stoppers on the pedals were intact. Turned out to be the cable somehow became disconnected from the throttle body.

Re: Cruise control not working

I have a problem with my car ( 2007, Civic VIII Hatchback 2.2 diesel ).

I can turn on Cruise Control ( If I push the Cruise button then lighting the CRUISE MAIN lamp on the dashboard) so far so good.
But if I push the Res or Set button then nothing happens.
Not lighting the Cruise Control lamp.

I checked the brake and clutch switches, everything is good and I checked the Set and Res button on the steering wheel.

What else can I check?

Re: Cruise control not working

Thanks BrotatoChip!

This website is very usefull.

I finded the mistake betwen the MICU and Gauge Controller, I fixed it and delete fault messages.
I tested selfdiag on Gauge this is OK.
Again checked the pedals sensor, that's fine.
I checked the all fuse under the wheel, that's fine.

I'm starting give up. ;-(

If anyone has idea please help me.

Thanks.

Did you go through all the steps in the "Cruise control cannot be set" section?

FIXED! Cruise control

My cruise control on my 2004 Honda Civic LX stopped working apruptly. The light on the gauge cluster would not illuminate when the button on the steering wheel was pressed. I checked the fuses and the horn like other suggested with no results. What I found was a missing clutch pedal bumper pad. Mine had came apart. (See pics). These are about 7 bucks on eBay. Part number 46505-SA5-000. There several of these bumpers on the clutch and the brake. Hope this helps someone else diagnose their problem!

The hole left by the missing bumper was not allowing the safety switch to press in.

The new bumper installed.

Re: Cruise control not working

Had the same problem, and traced it to defective contacts in the brake pedal switch.

Background info: There are two sets of contacts in the brake pedal switch, one pair with wide terminals that are normally-closed (NC) when the button is out, and one pair with smaller terminals that are normally-open (NO) when the button is out. The NC and NO designations are the correct terminology for the button being out, but note that when it's installed in the car, the button is pressed in by the brake pedal. So with the pedal up (button in), the wide-pins contact is open and the small-pins contact is closed. When the pedal is pressed, the contacts change state -- the wide-pins contact closes, and the small-pins contact opens.

The wide pins are used for the brake lights. So when the pedal is pressed, the contacts close and the brake lights go on. The narrow pins are used for the cruise control. So when the pedal is pressed, the contacts open and the cruise control goes off.

In my case, the small-pins contact would not close when the pedal was up, so the cruise control was always deactivated. I took out the switch (very easy to do -- just turn it slightly to the left and it pops right out), worked some spray contact cleaner down into the contacts, and that fixed the switch.

When reinstalling the switch, slip the switch back into the holding bracket until the button bottoms out against the brake pedal, so that the button is fully pressed down BUT the pedal is not moved by the switch. This adjustment is fairly critical, and can be another reason the cruise control isn't working. If the switch is not inserted far enough, the cruise control contacts will never close, and the cruise control won't work. If the button is inserted too far, the brake contacts may not close when the pedal is pressed, and the brake lights won't come on. When the switch is in the correct position, turn it slightly to the right to lock it in place.

Re: Cruise control not working

Ok I will take a look and try the suggestion being made. My issue is the cruiser switch lights up and the dash light comes on, but the cruise control does not activate.
