Is an exhaust heat shield replacement advisable?
I lost my exhaust heat shield due to rust on my 2002 Honda Civic LX sedan. It was removed, but the mechanic didn't mention replacing it. I contacted the service dept at the dealership. The reply was that it is no longer available from Honda - only as an aftermarket part and will cost about $300 (part, labor and tax) to replace. I've already spent $800 this year on the car (side window motor and cam plug replacement). I am spending more on thw car than the wholesale value and the side door chime and air conditioning still don't work. I wanted to know if the shield replacement is advisable. What could happen if it wasn't?

Nothing bad will happen without it. Just don't let anything touch the exhaust
