Black sludge in coolant reservoir tank

my car was overheating last night because the fans weren’t working, but todya they just fixed themselves? idk they started to work randomly but as i was searching for the issues, i opened my violent res tanks and lo and behold, black sludge everywhere!!!!!!

it’s an 05 civic lx 1.7L with 245k Kilometres on it. i think it’s the original head gasket

Re: Black sludge in coolant reservoir tank

Flush the cooling system, fill with fresh coolant, see if it overheats

Re: Black sludge in coolant reservoir tank

The black coating in the reservoir isn't unusual, and I haven't seen it cause problems

Intermittent rad fan operation is bad.
Motor/relay(s)/switch?
