Rust/caked on carbon on header gasket area.
Rust/caked on carbon on header gasket area.
I've been running a stock exhaust and finally my cat crumpled & my exhaust leaks got so bad that I decided to "upgrade" to a yonaka 2.5" catback (well aware of no power gained lol), as well as replace the cat & the headers.
I'm sure I'd be fine, but I'm wondering if you cared enough to clean this up which I do, is it safe to use a wire wheel on this? Would I be better off with sandpaper? I tried plugging the holes and doing steel wool, but I didn't get anywhere. Just trying to make sure that I don't potentially create a problem that I'm trying to fix.
I'm technically not trying to gain performance, but I didn't know where else to put this thread to feel free to move to. Thanks for any input.

Wire wheel/scotch brite pad. Try using a ball of masking tape sticky side out, or maybe paper towel
