Crank Sensor?

I have been having an issue for 6-8 months with my 05 Civic Si-G 2 door coupe 1.7 SOHC V-Tec. It will start fine cold and it will run fine for a bit, but then it will hesitate hard on a shift (1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd) or while just driving and then the engine light will come on or shortly after come on. It will then run like it's in Limp Mode or it is in Limp Mode limiting at 3,000 to 3,500 rpm, it may stay this way for a couple of days or the engine light may go back off a time later, it may decide to run fine while the engine light is still on. Checked the code and it always comes up as Crank Sensor, I replaced the sensor ( OME Denso) and the problem came back on my way home after replacing it. Now I did have a power steering leak and it did spray the fluid on to the sensor lead and housing so I cleaned it and checked the lead for breaks and tried it again only to still have the issue. Also replaced the plugs and put in some good Coil Packs as well as trying a few other things. Also when it is warm and running it will stall and can be difficult to start as well it can be difficult to start when it is warm if I go into a store to shop for 10-20 minutes and come back out to start it. I'm at a loss to figure it out, I even replaced the the fuel pump assembly to rule that out and cleaned the EGR valve. Anyone have any suggestions? I've bought another Denso Crank Sensor just in case the other one I bought is faulty or damaged due to the power steering fluid

Re: Crank Sensor?

Where did you buy the sensor? eBay as an example has tons of listings for OEM Denso sensors but they’re actually fake. It’s usually easy to tell by how much cheaper they are than somewhere like the dealership.

Re: Crank Sensor?

I bought the sensor from Rock Auto. I just bought another Denso Crank Sensor from Rock Auto and installed it today. I cleared the code and took the car out for a drive, it was fine until I got into the throttle hard and I felt a hesitation and the engine light came on and it went to limp mode. I brought it back and checked the code and it was "P0339 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Intermittent". So I cleared the code once again and drove home staying light on the throttle and then using cruise on the hiway and bumping it up a little at a time til I reached 110kph so roughly about 3100rpm and the engine light never came back on. So it can't be the new sensor, there must be something else I'm missing I just don't know what....

Re: Crank Sensor?

How well did you clean the connector after the power steering incident? That can cause an intermittent connection issue.

Re: Crank Sensor?

This read may help: https://troubleshootmyvehicle.com/ho...crank-sensor-1

The rpm drop after 3500 and feeling of limp mode is a similar symptom of a Vtec issue. https://my.prostreetonline.com/2014/...c-doesnt-work/ I'm not sure on the 1.7 at what rpm the Vtec engages so it may not be related at all but, oil level and cleaning the Vtec solenoid and metal filter screen (gasket) is easy and good maintenance.

Re: Crank Sensor?

From what I've read the Vtec kicks in at 4500rpm on the 1.7L, I did check the spark and it was OK, but the code it keeps throwing the P0339 code, now before I was getting misfire codes as well as Crank Sensor Code.
