VVT solenoid leak
Hello, I have a 2003 honda civic EX and I noticed the VVT solenoid gasket was leaking oil a week ago. It was small at the beginning; however, I got home yesterday with smoke coming out of my engine bay and a monstrous leak mostly coming from the VVT (or so I believed). Just to be sure, I had my civic towed to a local shop so they could evaluate the problem and confirm my initial diagnosis.
It was the VVT indeed.
My 1st question is: would it be safe to drive it back from the shop to my house so I can fix it, or would that create bigger problems.?
The shop I took my car to is 15 miles away.
2nd question: would a VVT oil leak affect the rest of my engine in any way? I'm thinking of draining whatever oil is left, change the VVT gasket, and then cleaning the surface of my engine to see if there are any other leaks.
What other steps do you guys recommend?

Re: VVT solenoid leak
There's 2 gaskets in the VTEC solenoid, replace both of them and check the screens for debris.
clean the mating surfaces and then reinstall.
I would drive it home, might be a little messy. Make sure your oil is topped up before you drive
