I have owned my 7th gen (2002) ex coupe for just under a year. Let me preface this by saying that this car already had a d16y8 manifold conversion when I purchased it. I didn’t know a ton about Honda’s at the time and to me it looked normal. This may be the source of my idle problems as the mod was probably done incorrectly. Since just after I bought it(at the 200k mile mark) it has displayed the code p0505 which, when plugged up to my scanner, says the iacv system is malfunctioning. I first cleaned the oem iacv until it was squeaky clean and made sure the valve rotated easily, and reinstalled. My idle went from fluctuating and surging to a steady 1500, which would occasionally drop down to a cool 700 when I jammed the brakes or put on the a/c. The code remained. I resolved to buy a new iacv off amazon (oem ones are way way way too expensive and this one had good reviews), and when it came in the mail and I tossed it on, cleared the codes, and did the f/I idle relearn as per this forum, the car idled super low.
so low that it stalls when I first start it up, and it’s barely even above the minimum mark. I’d say somewhere around 400rpm. (I have bought a second one since this and tried that as well so Between the 3 I don’t think it’s the valve itself)It makes my car shake like all hell, and I deliver pizzas as a job so I can’t afford to sit around while it gets fixed. I have always done the work on this car myself and so far every other time it’s crapped out on me (alternator, fuel pump, shift linkage snapped, VC gasket leak twice, and a mysterious case of the loosening serpentine belt) I’ve been able to fix it that weekend and get back to work. I can’t give up now so someone please help me get this car to idle right !!
