Still getting squealing after drive belt change.

Hi there,

Well today I changed my drive belt as I had squealing for a while. The belt I took off didn't look too bad considering it had been on there 5 years at least as far as I know.

So after doing that I still have squeal. There is only 3 pulleys, The alternator looks smooth and straight and so does the AC but the crankshaft pulley has a bit of a wobble. Is that likely the problem?

Are you sure the belt was put on tight enough? For the alternator/compressor belt it should deflect 5.6-6.5 mm when a 22 lb force is applied between the alternator and crankshaft pulley. Kind of difficult to accurately gauge that but most try tightening it up some and see if the squealing stops.

Ok thanks. That could be the problem then. I would guess that it is over 10mm but I will have to check again. This was the first one I've done so I was worried about over tightening it.

Once you tighten the belt with the wingnut make sure you tighten both bolts under the alternator. One from the alternator to the bracket and the other from the bracket to the block.

Cheers mate, I tightened it up this morning and it hasn't squealed since.
