Low oil pressure at idle
Low oil pressure at idle
My 2001 has low oil pressure at idle, with the light flickering after the engine has warned up and is idling. Light goes off if I push down the pedal a little bit. As I understand this could either be a bad oil pump or the screen filter on the oil pickup tube could be partially clogged. In order to clean this screen I would have to remove the oil pan. Should I first try cleaning the screen?
Re: Low oil pressure at idle
First you should check oil level.
Second you should check the oil level.
Third, consider the oil filter suspect and just replace it.
With a rag and flashlight and safety goggles and with the engine running, slowly unscrew the oil filler cap and look to see how much oil is in there. Should be a good bit, some splashes out, but should not pour out.
If everything still seems right, get a loaner oil pressure gauge and unscrew the oil sender to hook up the gauge and get real readings.
