2004 EX - Gas pedal got stuck a bit. What makes it come back up?
I have a 2004 Civic EX. I was driving the car just going calmly through town. No rough acceleration or anything. The car kept accelerating and the RPMs were around 3k RPM when I stopped and put the car in neutral. I shut the car off several times and it was still reving high. finally i pulled the gas pedal up with my hand and it went back to normal. So the pedal wasn't coming back up all the way. Now it's working good again, but I notice that I can always pull it up a bit more with my hand or foot.
I did notice that there is a spring looking thing next to the gas pedal. That thing is really rusted looking. Is that what pulls the gas pedal back up? I don't know how it works.

All that's involved:
Spring on gas pedal (Pedal must be free to move on its pivot)
Spring on throttle body
cable between the two, no spring, cable MUST move smoothly and freely

ok. I have no idea how to run a cable so I'm not sure if I can do that. It looks like it's a few bolts to take off the cover to get to the throttle body plate that opens and closes. Would I just use a carb cleaner on it?
For the spring by the gas pedal I have some PB blaster. Anything wrong with using that on it?

It’s very likely your throttle cable itself is worn out and starting to bind enough to cause that issue.
Best option would be to replace the cable and lube the springs during reinstall. As your seeing, a sticking throttle cable is only going to get worse and pose a serious safety issue.
