post engine swap issues.

so i blew my old engine and had a new one put in.

ive been driving it around with an engine light since the swap. it has been back and forth from my house and the mechanics. he swapped all the sensors. cleaned the throttle body, reset the idle, and checked all the vacuum hoses.

the engine light threw tps, and ?idle controller? the light used to turn off once and awhile but its been on for a few solid weeks.

the symptoms. erratic idle, it rarely goes below 1000rpm where it used to idle. its usually around 1500. but you can hear the engine changing, and even after awhile a good shake develops while parked and idling.

slowly touching the gas in neutral sends the tach all over, and the engine skips and jumps.

when starting, it drives fine, but after a few shifts, especially if its a bad shift. my accelerator gets touchy. there is a shudder when i let off the peddle, and the accelerator jumps if i try to hold the peddle to one speed. im constantly accelerating and decelerating.

my mechanic said to bring it to a dealership, its the last thing he would recommend, but he seems to think its something with the computer.

could it be as simple as getting the ecu flashed? does the throttle body need replacement or the idle air controller?

i dont want to go the dealership but if i do go i want to have as much info as i can.

thanks and if you need any questions answered please get back to me!

Re: post engine swap issues.

did you put in the same kind of motor? like a d17a2 to replace your blown d17a2 engine?

Re: post engine swap issues.

soulds like a simple throttle body issue. make sure the engine he swapped is exactly the same as the one you had. same transmission too. did you reuse your old tb or did the engine come with its own? first try the idle learn procedure, then if that doesnt work, get a different throttle body off ebay for $50 and swap it on. make sure you get the right one for auto or manual trans, they are different. could also be a vacuum leak so check to be sure all the hoses plugged to the tb are in good shape.

Re: post engine swap issues.

i tried the idle learn procedure, it idled fine, until i tried driving it. the engine light came back on, and the funky idle returned.

im gonna ask my mechanic about the tb, see wut the story is with that.

im not having very good luck finding one on ebay, is there a particular buyer you like?

Re: post engine swap issues.

im pretty sure, my mechanic did that. because i didnt buy any new ones. unless they come with rebuilt engines?

the more i think about it, i think its the throttle body i had a pick up that got water in the tb once and it had a similar shudder, an inch into pressing the peddle.

i cant find one for 50 bucks tho, but im gonna check a couple part shops around here for prices, and go talk to my mechanic a little.
