LOL, whatever works I guess....

Since everyone disagrees on what color the smoke would be, to determine what the smoke is from, just smell it. This will tell you whether it's coolant or oil...

Do a oilchange w/ royal purple 5w30. It is worth a try. Make sure you are not running too much oil also

Or try the 5W20 we are suppose to use by Royal purple. Or are you not suppose to use that with the turbos? I don't know about the whole turbo thing.

Well...I spoke too soon. She is still smoking. Maybe the pan is too full? In a couple weeks I will burn about a quart though lease:

Oh well at least I have my alcohol kit on now.

How did you pick up your oil restrictor? I've PMed/emailed SF but gotten no response-- is it something I can just pick up at a store or was it sent to you free of charge from SF?

it looks like and probably is a drilled out rivet. it just restricts the amount of oil that flows into the turbo.

Did the drilled out rivet fix anyone elses smoke problem? It hasn't done anything for me. I have pm'ed Catalyst and posted on their website and nobody can tell me anything. On the intake side of the turbo I can move the turbine a little. Is there supposed to be ANY movement there? The only thing that I haven't changed out is the turbo. Can't you buy a rebuild kit for these turbo's??

what kind of oil are you running?

be sure to run 5w-20 and it should stop with the oil restrictor....

check the oil drain line... is it kinked or too long? would it seem like the oil would puddle in the drain line? if so, cut the drain line a little shorter so the oil flows a lot easier out the drain....

if all these things didn't help, call up mike or mike (catalyst) and they should be able to work something out with swapping turbo's....

i think when i originally got the kit, they told me that there is a 2 or 3 year warrenty on the turbo itself...

I think I have found the cure!?! Although it may shorten the life of the turbo. Mike said that the oil restrictor cuts the oil flow by around 25%....so, I figured what if it were slowed down a little more. I took the oil restrictor (rivet) and pinched the end just a little bit more so as to make the hole smaller. I put the line back on and.....NO MORE SMOKE. I reved it up a few times, which was always the way to get a nice cloud. Once again, no smoke. I then drove around town a little and then back home, all without the clouds of smoke billowing from my *** and people asking "Do you know that your car is smoking?" lease: The only time I could get smoke is going in reverse quickly. Which I believe is the oil backing up the return line from the pan.

Still....I don't know how much oil is flowing through the turbo. I will take the return line off today when I can get the car in the air and test it. How much oil I absolutely necessary for these turbo's? How much oil does it take to fill it up? It can't be that much. Seems pretty small to me. Let me know what you guys think.

check your drain line...

the oil line needs to siph back into the pan so in order to do that, make sure that the hose is as vertical as possible and not parallel to the ground...

Heh....My drain line is fine. It is as short and as straight as it can possibly be. The same as it has always been. Anyway...I took off the line last night and started the car up and the turbo definately has oil running through it and back to the pan....just not as fast.

I stopped smoking for a few days after the oil change to Royal Purple and the oil restrictor. But now I am back to smoking. I guess it is realy hard to try and stop.

My car is still not smoking I definately think that the turbo needs to be rebuilt though. I am pretty sure the bearings are going bad, and that is one reason for the smoke. It still boost's great though and with no smoke....did I mention that it doesn't smoke anymore.

bearings rebuilt?... argh. Man i don't want to touch that oil restricotr again haha. The oil feed line is kinda hard to reach and loosen...exhaust manifold in the way. U guys take out exhaust manifold to get to it? How much does it cost to get new bearings?

You can get a rebuild kit for a T3 for like $100. It will come with everything to rebuild the inside. I don't take anything off except the feed line. It's not that hard to get to. Do you have oil on the front of your block?

no i don't. Interesting thing happend today. First off I talked to Catalyst...he said it could be my drain line. He said to zip tie it to make the angle of the drain line steeper. So today I took a look and tried to figure out where I'd zip tie it to. Couldn't find any zip ties. I drove around and I was smoking more than usual. Came home... parked. 3 hrs. later tried to start my car...I had a hard time starting it!! It rumbled to a start. I was thinking my oil level was too low so I checked it. Oil was in between the two dots. When I got my oil change two months ago we filled it to the top dot.

Once I got it started, my car stopped smoking. Drove it all night no smoking after that hard start. Weird huh?

Well anyway...Mike told me that he's pretty sure it's a problem with the drain line. Because of what happend today I think just maybe...since I filled up oil to the 2nd dot, oil level might have been too high...would that cause a backup of the drain line? Also when oil gets dirty, does it get thicker? Just some thoughts to put up there because at 2nd dot, it was burning, at in between dots, not burning.

Make sure the return line does not sag at all. Oil will build up and get past the seals into the lower IC pipe.

my line doesnt sag....although it is not completely downhill, it is pretty level...or slightly downhill. anyway, no uphill flow so i dont think there will be enough restriction to cause that....or at least i hope
