Question Please Help!

Ok here it goes! While driving to work car (2004 civic ex coupe) lost power and terrible smell came from it. Check engine light came on and battery light. After mechanic looked at it he told me that I needed new alternator new battery new alternator bracket....Got that all fixed and check engine light and battery light still on. Both checked out and are in perfect condition. Now temp gauge is only working half the time and when was very cold out car was having a lot of problems starting.... Someone told me that o need a new multiplex control unit ... But before spending the money just wanted to hear what you all had to say. Thanks so much for reading!!!

"Perfect condition"? No.
Why is the check engine light on?
Why is the charge warning light on?
Now temp gauge is only working half the time and when was very cold out car was having a lot of problems starting....
Again: Why is the check engine light on?
But before spending the money just wanted to hear what you all had to say.
If someone forgot to tighten the alternator mounting bolts, it can get really expensive.

Re: Please help!

Ok so that wasn't helpful. The battery and and alternator are brand new! Both perfect. I don't know what the lights are on that's what I'm asking.

Re: Please help!

The check engine light being on is trying to tell you something.

Get a scan tool or go somewhere and get the code read.

My info can be immensely helpful from a technical standpoint if you understand what to do with it.
The battery and and alternator are brand new!
N.E.W. stands for Never Ever Worked.
Both perfect. I don't know what the lights are on that's what I'm asking.
You have to do the legwork, none of us can see or touch the car.

check engine light and battery light still on. Both checked out and are in perfect condition.
What exactly did you have "checked out" for the check engine light?

Aftermarket alternators are about 80% crap, there's a real good chance the car doesn't like it. DangerZone may tell you it is just fine when you take it in for their test, but there's a damn good reason the warning lights are still on.

The DangerZone code reader might reveal a code and print out a shopping list for the check engine light, but there's very little chance it can tell why the battery light is on.

If the DangerZone code reader cannot talk to the engine computer at all, we need to know that too. Try a couple other stores if that's the case.
.If it can tell you a code, we need to know what that code is.

PS: My scantools and voltmeters don't have a setting for "checked out" and never display data readings like "perfect condition".

Re: Please help!

Here's two Q&D charging system warning light checks:

Turn key on do not start engine
Is battery symbol lit up?
Unplug the 4 wire plug from the back of the alternator
Is battery symbol still lit up?

reconnect plug into alternator

Start engine
Is battery symbol lit up?
Unplug the 4 wire plug from the back of the alternator
Is battery symbol still lit up?
