Problems with the rear-windshield integrated antenna?
Hey guys,
I have a 2005 Civic EX with the windshield integrated antenna. Lately I have been having numerous issues with the quality of Audio I've been getting from it. I live in the Philadelphia area, maybe about 5 minutes away. Sometimes I turn my car on, turn my audio on, and get crystal clear audio... other times I turn it on, and get nothing but static on every station.
Today was the biggest culprit. In the morning, audio was fine for my philly channels, but I was travelling from 5 miles away to about 45 miles away without a problem. Then when I turn my car on down here (About 10 minutes from Atlantic City), I got nothing but static... I hit the scan button, and first it found one channel that was from this area, but it was staticy and scan couldn't find it again. Ate lunch, went back to my car, turn the car on and my Philly channels are back to being perfect again.
What gives?

My good friend made a good suggestion of this, is there any truth to this? First of all, it isn't like I'm driving around, have good signal and it turns to crap. Either it works when I turn the car on, or it doesn't work, no in between. If it were a loose antenna, wouldn't it be that the signal would be intermittent, if it were jiggling around it would be good while I'm listening and go bad... there's no middle, it's either good the entire trip, or bad the entire trip.
He does it for a living, and he mentioned it sounds to be something wrong with the head unit, perhaps an internal part or malfunction. Any truth?

Good point. You may want to try posting in the ICE and Electrical Forum, they might be able to help you better.

I have heard of running a ground wire or something to the antenna on our cars. I've heard other people complain of this. I'm sure someone has input. I rarely listen to the radio though...
