Question Honda Touring 2020 has burned out clutch after only 17000 around town driving[solved]

I have a Honda Civic 2020 touring which I mainly drive on in-town roads to and from my office. After 4 years I have 17000 miles. About 4 weeks ago I noted that the Adaptive Cruise Control couldn"t be turned on ," ACC Off" message lit up. Last week I noted it wasn't accelerating properly. Dealer service tells me it needs a new clutch (?and flywheel?) and that I "burned it out". I have been driving manual for over 50 years and I have previously had manual trans Honda Accords, Nissan Maximas, Mazdas without any clutch issues. I noted on the internet that other drivers also reported these low mileage clutch burn outs for 10th gen Honda Civics Si and Touring Has this happened to anyone else? The repair bill is really $$$$$$. Thanks for any insight or information.

I have found Honda Service Bulletin 22-017 (September 5, 2022) which addresses this issue and explains why there can be early clutch burn-out for Civics 2020-2021 1.5 L T Engines. Per the service bullein It appears there was a known production problem due to "supplier priduction issues". As a result "the friction disc material may have prematurely worn". Sounds like there should have been a recall as this could have resulted in significant safety issues with regards to engine performance in traffic.

I sent the Service Bulletin to North American Honda customer service and they agreed to cover the replacement through their Goodwill Assistance program. My dealer's service rep insisted that it was all my fault anyway. Thumbs up for North American Honda, thumbs down for the dealer's service rep.
