2017 Honda Civic EX-T w/ CVT - Clunking = Transmission Failure?

My wife's 2017 Honda Civic EX-T w/ CVT (~125k miles) began making a loud clunking sound between approx. 5-25 mph. I lifted each side of the vehicle, rotated the wheel by hand, and was able to reproduce the sound. Here's a clip:

It's hard to see in the video, but the inner CV spline which goes into the transaxle is loose, and moves side-to-side about 2-3mm while turning. The CV joint itself is tight - the movement is where the spline enters the transaxle housing...

Besides the movement, you can hear the clunk in the video. Also, I lift each side of the vehicle, and each side is exactly the same, so I'm sure it's not the CV joints.

I found an entire differential assembly for only ~$300 but I'm not sure if there might be something else going on.

Does anyone have experience with this? Any insight would be much appreciated!
