I have a 2018 Honda Civic si it only has 40k miles but 2nd gear grinds. You can put it in to 2nd but you have to put it in slowly. Even then it will still sometimes grind then pop out. What could be causing this?

Sounds like the synchros are failing. Looks like whoever was first driving it was new to driving manual.

It could be. I hope for your sake it isn't, though. That means a crapload of clutchless shifting by someone who has no idea what they're doing.

Yeah, I'll admit I'm not super familiar with the 10th gen. Could be a relatively simple fix but it sounds like it's beyond that now.

I have no idea. It depends on whether it's a synchro or the actual gear. If it's the synchro, cheap enough (probably in the $500-$1000 range based on labour). If the gear needs to be replaced (not sure if that requires a full trans replacement or if you can just change the gear), but you're easily looking at a few grand there.

I'd have a shop look at it to confirm.

If you're confident, you could get a used trans and swap it yourself, cheaper than paying someone to change a gear/synchro

Call a shop, probably around $2k
