If you're looking for AEM, you only have one choice: Short ram for the automatics and Cold Air for the 5speeds... The cold air intake is supposed to offer you better performance. I had one installed on my civic and it was wicked. However, on my new car I will only install a short ram next time around.

You can actually do both on the 5 Speed. You can put in either a short ram intake or the cold air intake. The benefit to the Cold Air intake is that you are providing your car with colder air to the engine. Therefore increasing performance when you car hits around 3500 RPM and higher (Basically when the VTEC kicks in).

You are generally doing the same thing with the Short Ram intake, but with the Short Ram the air intake isn't quite as cool as the filter is at the top of the engine where the warmer air is. The Cold air intake sits a few inches from the ground and is sucking in colder air as it is further from the warmer spots on the engine.

Downfall to the cold air intake is that you take the chance of sucking water into the engine. (Not Good) Alot of users on this site in Canada at least, will convert there CAI to a SRI in the winter months to keep it safe from all the rain and snow we experience. If this bothers you, you can purchase a bypass filter (not expensive) for the AEM CAI so that it filters out any moisture that may be sucked into the Cold Air Intake.

Just take a look at some of the members rides to get a visual understanding. I would search and get you the pics but I am at work right now.

Cheers

Colder air is denser, which is why it generates more performance.
