No start/ Intermittent starting
No start/ Intermittent starting
Hello all. I have a 2018 2.0 no Turbo Civic. On Monday after making 4 trips in the am the car would not start in the pm. There were no signs of issues before or earlier in the day, no difficulty cranking starting and the like. As per usual it just started up in less than half a second.
Everything in accessory mode works fine. Lights, AC, Music, door locks. When turning past accessory mode to start the car, nothing happens. And I truly mean nothing. Other than the music cutting off and the screen going black, all of the lights stay on and nothing on the dash flickers. The starter does not activate, and there are no sounds from the engine bay. We tried jumping the car to rule out a battery issue, no change. I tried the spare key to rule out the immobilizer, still no change. Tried with and without brake pedal, in neutral, and verified the parking brake was not on. No difference.
I tried to start the car again Tuesday morning, no change, but on Tuesday evening it started like there was never anything wrong. On Wednesday evening it was fine and I drove the car home again. Then this morning, same issue. Car doesn't do anything when trying to start. I'm hesitant to chalk it up to "its just a bad starter" because there were no issues leading up to it and no issues Tuesday evening to Wednesday night. And when it doesn't work, it's not like its trying to turn and can't, it just isn't.
I am at a loss. I really hope it's not a starter issue because I've seen the videos online and it looks like more than I can do by myself in the driveway, and very expensive for the mechanics to handle here. Any suggestions would be welcome.
Edit: 6/21/25 Some more information, the car won't start if it is less than 90℉ outside, but above 90℉ it starts up absolutely fine
