2016 Civic EX-T
2016 Civic EX-T
My wife has a 2016 Civic EX-T and with all the talk of oil dilution, I became curious. Well, with my luck, I decided to check the oil and the level was an inch above the full mark. I took it to the local Dealership and they gave me a free oil change (less the cost of the filter...?) and did some kind of computer reprogram. Well, here we are, only a month later and the oil level is right back above the full line again. I don't give a hoot about an extended warranty. I buy Honda's because I want to own them forever (I have 4). Should I trade this car in and get her a new Civic? Has Honda fixed the problem for the newer models yet?

Few questions.
Was oil level checked hot or cold? Made sure you were on a level surface?
Is that "inch above full mark" comparative, as in you made sure that after a fresh oil change it was at the full mark, and under the same conditions, that month later, it indicated an inch high?
If you're really worried about it, send in a used oil analysis and they'll tell you the extent of any contamination

Re: 2016 Civic EX-T
The first time I changed the oil in my 2016 Civic Touring I looked at the 2.0L engine oil capacity (4.4 Qt) instead of the 1.5T (3.7 Qt) in the owner's manual. So I was overfilled from the get go.
Re: 2016 Civic EX-T
So the recall they performed (computer updating, oil change) is to let the engine heat up quicker, causing less oil contamination.
In the letter you received, they state the level could go higher, which they deem NORMAL. So, theres an extended warranty on camshafts & spark plugs until 220km due to the issue.
BUT, the motor is healthy, that's just how she runs but keep up on oil changes!
