louder acceleration
louder acceleration
I recently bought a used 2016 civic at 28,000 miles and now has around 31,000. She drove nice and smooth when I first got her. It accelerated smooth and quiet. Now when I have to accelerate beyond a cruising speed you can really hear it when you hit the gas. If I get on the fwy it sounds like I'm driving a cheap car with as much as you can hear it. No maintanance light is on but it definitely is much louder when I accelerate now and I really feel something is not right with it. Any ideas of what may be the issue??

Did someone check the air filter and not put the housing back together correctly?
Re: louder acceleration
I took it to Honda twice and the guy convinced me both times not to get it diagnosed since the engine light was not on. 2nd time I went in he didn't understand what noise I was talking about so he test drove it himself. He said it sounded fine to him and that it sounded like all other hondas. There is definitely a difference from when I first bought it to 2 months later(now). I was frustrated and left. I guess if it's diagnosed with nothing wrong I have to pay for it since no engine light. I am convinced something is not right though so I am definitely taking it back in. Something has to come up. It's not like it makes a weird rumble or strange noise ......when I have to accelerate quickly it's just much louder now like the engine is working harder if that makes sense. My 2013 Hyundai Elantra sounded smoother.

Re: louder acceleration
1 test drive an identical car for comparison .....if it's the same then your car is not a problem
2 take mechanic for a ride (make it quick) demonstrate and point out your concern so everyone is on the same page
Plenty of stuff can be wrong without any warning light.

Re: louder acceleration
My brother just bought a brand new civic and I did test drive his to compare and mine drove like his does now.....smooth and quiet acceleration. I told this to the guy at Honda and all he could say was 'well my 2016 Honda is not gonna drive like a brand new honda'. My car only has 30,000 miles so I get its not brand new but it is fairy new and it should at least be driving the same way as when I bought it 2 months ago. I am going to take it back to Honda this weekend and take the chance of paying for diagnose myself but they have got to find something that's making it sound louder. It's much louder than my brothers new civic and how the guy who test drove it from Honda didn't notice doesn't make sense to me. When I put it in Turbo it's even louder to where I don't even want to use it again.
Re: louder acceleration
every time i put a new muffler on a normal car i am amazed how quiet it is.. a week or two later after the packing in the muffler has time to settle, the noise increases a bit. it is normal to a point for a car to get louder. not "a lot" louder, but louder. drive your brothers again in 3000 miles.
if they put a new one on right before you bought it, it could be the truth.

Re: louder acceleration
I don't know if this makes sense but it's not just the loudness of it but I feel when I accelerate like when getting on the fwy........ it's almost as if I'm going up a steep hill in how it sounds.
Re: louder acceleration
This is frustrating for me. I'm taking it into Honda tomorrow again and I'm getting it diagnosed. I just hope something comes back wrong because I wouldn't have bought the car if it was like this when I test drove it.

Re: louder acceleration
This is why you MUST take the mechanic for a ride to show them exactly what your concern is. Make it quick, 5 minutes max. Time is money,
A picture is worth a thousand words. So is a test drive.

Try turning the ECON mode on, see if that's your difference.
At 31k the tires might be noisy. Nobody is gonna be replacing exhaust components this soon unless it was ripped apart by some road debris.

You can't describe the issue well enough for us on this forum to form a mental picture and understand, and trying to describe your issue at the dealers service counter is just as difficult

Yeah when you push the gas pedal down far it's gonna rev up the engine and make noise as it builds power/boost and accelerates. Completely expected.

Re: louder acceleration
Bottom line is I do not enjoy driving g it anymore because of it and that days something right there. Have you ever drove a cheap car up a hill like going to California . Like say a hyundai accent even an elantra. When you go up a steep hill it goes from that smooth ride to a loud Rev as it tries to get up that hill. A Honda is quite even going up a hill. Not mine though.
Re: louder acceleration
Did the dealer find the problem? Im experiencing this as well and I'm tired of being told that "it just sounds like a Honda" lol. It surely didn't sound like that when I bought mine back in July
Re: louder acceleration
I wonder if it could have something to do with the Turbo itself? I don't know, im just throwing something out there. Under load the turbo spins up faster? Maybe something with the bearings? I really am just guessing.
