Rep Power: 0 KONI design flaw/remedy
Just had my Koni's fixed up again at Hi Tech today.
Don't get me wrong, they are wonderful shocks, but there is one slight design flaw, and one annoyance that may just be my car.
The design flaw is at the rear. There are two settings for the shock, and seperates at 1 inch interval. I had the Koni's installed on the lower position, and my car was a bit sagged--1 finger up front and .5 finger at back (uh, this point irrelevant, but I had it relocated to upper and now I'm 1 up front and 2 at back). The ring that holds that position for the perch is a U ring, and the opening ends tend to bend (did for one of my shock), alas what ppl say about the perch being flimsy.
Now, remedy, Hi Tech used a custom perch, thick O ring that fits on top of the U, thus giving it much more force (and the O ring is .25" thick, which is now adding to my rear height... Still contemplating if I should take it back down to 1 front .75 rear).
The second problem had to do with my rear right shock and it's bottom end attaching to the wheel unit. The end of the shock scrapes against the mount, and was making a squeaking noise. Hi Tech sanded down the side and greased it good. And they say if it worsens I will get a replacement, as it may be a slightly bent shock. We're taking bent by .0001 degree, so no biggie, but still an annoyance.
So, if you have the $$, go Tein, the second problem can still be there, but the first one is not a problem. If you can't afford Teins, just get Koni's and take heed of the first point, and get the custom ring installed.

Rep Power: 0 Yeah...well my whole ring broke..off...f.ucking thing...colapsed...but luckly the perch dug into the notch where the old ring was...so my car didn't fall.....
I got a new ring from Koni and put it in the top groove...also...do you know the exact measurements of this snap ring that they made...so maybe I can get a shop to make me one???
